Where the Love Is has received a generous grant from the Allan Louis Loeb Foundation to construct a brand new animal shelter at its Hamden headquarters.
The $162,000 donation will allow the non-profit, no-kill animal rescue to increase its shelter capacity and construct a new medical and rehabilitative care wing for abandoned, neglected and surrendered dogs throughout Connecticut.
The current facility can house about a dozen dogs, depending on their size, in kennels. The new shelter will add six to eight new climate-controlled kennels, a wellness center and welcome area.
“This grant is a game changer for our organization and the homeless dogs housed in our shelter,” said Julia Pisani, president of Where the Love Is. “We are extremely grateful to the Allan Louis Loeb Foundation for the grant and the acknowledgement of our mission. This funding allows us to build a sanctuary that not only will save more dogs, but will also serve as a hub for animal welfare and community resources.”
The Allan Louis Loeb Foundation says it selected Where the Love Is Animal Rescue based on its track record of rescuing, rehabilitating and rehoming almost 2,000 dogs since its founding in 2013.
“We are honored to support Where the Love Is Animal Rescue in this vital project,” said Foundation president Leslie Traub. “Allan Loeb was a lover of animals, especially horses and dogs. This group’s commitment to taking care of and rehoming large dogs is unparalleled in the area. We are confident this new facility will create a lasting, positive impact on the community.”
Where the Love Is is expected to break ground on the new shelter later this year. The grant will cover a significant portion of the project, but the rescue continues to seek community support to fully equip the new facility. Donations for the shelter construction project are tax-deductible.
