Adoption Process

So You Want To Adopt

Your New Best Friend

Where The Love Is Animal Rescue serves Connecticut. But because we try to never turn away a needy animal, we may also rescue a dog in imminent danger of euthanasia from other states when accompanied by proper certificates. Please keep in mind we are an entirely volunteer organization and we strive to process applications in as timely a manner as possible, but the care of our temporary guests comes first!

Our goal is to make the best rescue match taking into consideration the dog's background and your family's needs. Every dog is different: personality, temperament, energy, comfort with kids and other animals, medical needs and more. We take all these factors into consideration when making a furever-home match. We are very careful about the placements we make. We do our best to match the right dog with the right adoptive home because we want this to be the pet's permanent home.

If you are willing to wait for the right animal to be matched to you, you are an ideal candidate for Where The Love Is Animal Rescue. As our success rate proves, these precious dogs are well worth the wait.

Our

Process

Where the Love is rescues animals from Connecticut and across the country. Many come from high-kill shelters, and we are their only hope for a second chance at life. When dogs arrive at our rescue they are examined by a veterinarian and given any medical care they require – including having them spayed or neutered, vaccinated and microchipped. Once they’re ready for adoption, we schedule meet-and-greet appointments with prospective families and prepare to get you on your way to that all important “gotcha” day!

1. Apply

We appreciate you wanting to bring a dog into your home. In order for us to find the right pet for you, we need you to submit an adoption application. Keep in mind before you start this process, we need a few references.

2. Review

We will review your application upon receipt. If we have any questions or concerns, we will contact you for clarity.

3. Home Visit

Once your application review is complete, a Where The Love Is Animal Rescue volunteer will contact you to schedule a home visit to meet in person and discuss all-things pet. During the home visit, we look for potential hazards for the dog that the adopter may not have considered. All household members must be present during the home visit. This includes all pets.

4. Ready to Go Home

Once approved to adopt, we get you ready to bring home your new dog. If you filled out a general application or don't have a specific dog in mind, our volunteers will begin to evaluate pets currently in our foster care program who may be a good fit for you and your family. Cue the tail wags!

Additional

Information

  • We will not discuss adoption details regarding any particular dog if you have not yet applied to adopt.
  • Where The Love Is Animal Rescue is a 100% volunteer, non-profit organization. We will make every effort to schedule your home visit in a timely manner. Please be patient with us…the dogs need our time too.
  • All dogs are spayed/neutered, microchipped and up-to-date on all shots prior to adoption
  • Our adoption fees help us offset the cost of transporting your dog to Connecticut, getting them vetted and taking care of them until they're ready to go home. The fees also allow to rescue more dogs in need.
