Surrender Your Pet

Thinking of

surrendering your dog?

We know that sometimes life happens and people find themselves unable to properly care for their dog. Our greatest fear is that someone will feel so desperate that they take action that harms the dog. We want to ensure that even if they can’t stay with you, your pet gets the home they deserve.

Before you make the decision to surrender, give away, or sell your dog, we may be able to help you find solutions that will allow you to keep your dog as a member of the family. While we can't guarantee miracles, we do have extensive experience dealing with a multitude of issues and can certainly offer suggestions and alternatives to giving up your dog.

Criteria to surrender your dog to Where The Love Is Animal Rescue.

We understand that sometimes despite best efforts it is necessary to surrender your dog. We believe that each animal who comes through our doors has a story to tell and deserves a safe and loving environment to stay in until they find their forever family.

Please understand that because we have very limited resources and may not be able to take every animal into our care. There are several factors we must consider when determining if we are able to take in your dog, including the current number of animals in our care, the age and health of the dog being surrendered, their behavior and/or bite history and the reason for surrender. Please be patient with us and we will do our best to work with you to ensure the safety and well-being of your dog.

There is an $80 owner surrender fee per animal payable through cash or venmo only. In addition, we welcome any donation towards the care of the animal. Donations can be done either at the time of surrender or later. We could always use food, blankets, toys, collars, leashes, cleaning supplies, and monetary donations to aid in the care of our pet while they are in our care.

Surrendering your pet to Where The Love Is Animal Rescue is a permanent decision.

Where The Love Is Animal Rescue knows that surrendering your dog is a very difficult decision, but sometimes - it is the only one to make. If you choose to surrender your dog, you'll be asked to complete a surrender contract. Your signature on this contract represents a permanent decision on your part. This legally binding contract gives full ownership of the dog to Where The Love Is Animal Rescue. This allows us to provide veterinary care and down the road, legally adopt out the dog to a carefully pre-screened 'forever' home. You must be the legal owner of any animal you wish to surrender to Where the Love Is.  We do ask, if possible, that you provide complete and accurate veterinary records with your surrender. Animals who are spayed/neutered and up-to-date on shots require a shorter quarantine period and can be made available for adoption quicker. By providing vet records you are also giving us a deeper understanding of your animal’s specific needs, which allows us to more effectively and efficiently get them ready for adoption.
